Help Support Local Downtown Businesses with Indiana Originals

(WISH-TV) — Mel McMahon of Indiana Originals joined us from the Indianapolis City Market downtown today to share some ways you can support their vendors, along with other downtown businesses.

Downtown businesses have faced many challenges since the shutdown in March. Those challenges are tough to overcome, especially with companies continuing to have their employees work remotely and with large events cancelled or postponed. Our downtown members need your business! So grab your mask and head downtown to support dozens of Indiana Original businesses!

Today’s featured member is Indianapolis City Market! City Market was on architect Alexander Ralston’s original plat of Indianapolis dating back to 1821. There were actually seven structures on the City Market grounds prior to the historic Market House that many are familiar with today. The Market house opened on November 4, 1861. City Market is on the National Register of Historic Places and boasts 30 independent, small businesses that includes a mix of retail, restaurants, and service providers. The City Market is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Saturday 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and closed Sunday. Individual vendor hours may vary. Find the full list of vendors here.

The City Market is also host to Catacombs tours, an all-Indiana beer tap room, weddings and special events, and “The Original Farmer’s Market” started in 1997. Normally located on Market St between Delaware Street and Alabama Street, the outdoor market can be found on the southeast quadrant of Monument Circle due to construction. Visit the market every Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
