Indiana Owned takes the guess work out of supporting local businesses!

Mel McMahon Stone, creator of Indiana Owned, and Steve Sanner, CEO and owner of Jiffy Lube of Indiana, joined us today to share how they became Indiana Owned’s charter franchisee member and how he inspired the launch of Indiana Owned.

Being dedicated to supporting Indiana-owned businesses has led Indiana Originals to a membership expansion effort and name change to Indiana Owned. Once exclusive to independent business owners, Indiana franchise owners can now benefit from the organization’s focus.

Indiana Owned is dedicated to creating healthier, stronger communities and more jobs in the state through the support of Indiana-owned businesses.

“Throughout 2020 and the pandemic, it has been brought to our attention that these Indiana franchisee owners need our support and recognition, too,” said Mel McMahon Stone, co-founder of Indiana Owned. “They are an imperative part of our mission to create healthier, stronger communities and more jobs in Indiana. We are pleased to announce that we now welcome Indiana franchisee owners as members of Indiana Owned.”

Jiffy Lube of Indiana, Indiana Owned’s charter franchisee member, is an employer of more than 400 team members across the state. Franchisee members will be able to take advantage of the same benefits as current Indiana Owned members. Requirements for franchisee membership include the business being registered in Indiana, present and involved ownership and agreement to support the mission of Indiana Owned.

“My wife and I have been ‘locally owned and operated originals’ since 1985, but we are also part of three different regional and national franchises – Jiffy Lube, Tuffy and Mighty,” said Steve Sanner, CEO and owner of Jiffy Lube of Indiana. “As pioneers in our industry, we are very “original” with our “Growing People Through Work” program, our “Do More” campaign, and our Public Art Mural Project, the “No Ticket. Let’s Fix It” program that gives some motorists gift cards instead of citations, and so much more. I moved here in 1985 when we bought the franchise rights to Indiana, met my wife here, raised 4 North Central graduates, and have been a passionate and active member of the communities in which we do business. We get some support from the national system, but we have always been locally owned and operated and are now VERY excited to join Indiana Owned.  We look forward to working with other local owners to support each other and continue innovating to make Indiana a special place to live. … “Our competition likes to flood the market with coupons; anyone can do that, and we’ll happily accept their coupons. However, we’d rather focus on the community and our guests.”

Steve says they do this through their programs which highlight community volunteers and all they do to make Indiana better.
