Guest Blog: Why Choose Handmade Soap?

Handmade soaps have SO many positive benefits. If you’re interested in knowing why you should choose handmade soap then keep on reading!

Store-bought is NOT the same

Did you know most soap sold in stores in not even soap? It’s detergent. Yep, you read that right. Your skin is almost always left feeling super dry and itchy because it strips away all of the good oils from your skin! Detergents are made with synthetic chemicals, surfactants and perfumes while soap is made with oils, fats and lye (read my post on lye). A handmade soap with the right mixture of oils will leave your skin feeling so moisturized after use while a detergent will never leave your skin feeling moisturized.

Handmade soap is more ECO-FRIENDLY

Soap is biodegradable! My soaps are eco-friendly down to every ingredient I use. Any glitter is biodegradable glitter. All mica powder I use is sourced economically (read my post on mica). I also avoid palm oil, however there are eco-friendly options for that now. I also refrain from using any animal products in my soap. By using handmade soap you are also freeing up space in your shower from another plastic bottle. *side note, all of my packaging is minimal and eco-friendly as well!

Cost Effective

Bar Soap notoriously lasts longer than liquid soap alternatives. Liquid soap inherently needs more water which is overall less product you are getting. Most bars of soap last 1-3 months as well! So, you are getting more bang (or suds really) for your buck!

Inclusive Options

There is a bar of soap for everyone! Fragrance free options are always available for those with the most sensitive of skin as well as colorant free options available for those sensitive to colorants. Natural colorants options available such as clays, botanticals and powders. For those who love all of the good smells, there is a wide variety of fragrances for everyone to love and choose from!

Support Small Business

Whenever you buy handmade soap you are supporting someone who put in so much love, time and effort into their craft. Soap making is truly an art and a science. And what isn’t better than supporting a small business with super soft skin as an outcome? Yes, please (and thank you to all of you!)
