Indianapolis, the “Culinary Crossroads of America,” to Host 2024 World Food Championships

Indianapolis, renowned for its rich culinary culture, is set to welcome a global gastronomic spectacle: the 2024 World Food Championships (WFC). This prestigious event will mark a significant moment for the city, firmly establishing it as a vibrant hub for food sports and culinary innovation. Culinary Crossroads, a statewide initiative dedicated to showcasing Indiana’s culinary scene, spearheaded the efforts to bring this culinary extravaganza to the heart of the Hoosier State.

From November 8th to 12th, 2024, the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion on the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center will serve as the battleground for over 1,500 competitors. These culinary warriors, ranging from home cooks to seasoned professionals and BBQ aficionados, will converge in Indianapolis to vie for the title of champion across twelve distinct categories. The competition promises an exhilarating display of skill, creativity, and passion for food.

Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, a fervent supporter of the endeavor, expressed her enthusiasm for showcasing Hoosier hospitality to participants and spectators alike. With her backing, along with collaborative efforts from Culinary Crossroads, Ivy Tech Community College, the Indiana State Fair, Visit Indy, and Team Indiana competitors, the dream of bringing WFC to Indianapolis has become a reality.

Larry Dickerson, director of Culinary Crossroads, emphasized the collective dedication that propelled Indianapolis into the global spotlight of food sports. Since 2019, when the vision to host WFC in Indy was born, stakeholders have worked tirelessly to turn this aspiration into a tangible achievement. The culmination of their efforts will not only shine a light on Indianapolis’ culinary prowess but also reinforce its status as a premier destination for culinary enthusiasts.

Mike McCloud, founder and chief operating officer of WFC, underscored the significance of Indianapolis as the perfect home for the Main Event. Known for its illustrious sporting legacy and burgeoning culinary scene, Indy provides an ideal backdrop for crowning champions in the realm of food sports. The spirit of cooperation and partnership exhibited by the city further solidifies its position as a beacon of culinary excellence.
