“UIndy Alumni and Friends:

Greetings. As many of you know, when the pandemic hit in March 2020, WICR Public Radio lost its Director of Underwriting position due to the retirement of a longtime employee, which was followed by a university hiring freeze. This has been detrimental in multiple ways over the last 24 months including lost revenue for the station and the added difficulty of how we could continue to serve our clients, many of which are local non-for-profit arts organizations. Most importantly, our students interested in pursuing careers in media sales have been without the direction and learning opportunities they deserve.

I’m pleased to announce that we’ve finally been able to reinstate the position. Even better, we’ve reconceptualized it to focus on student learning and development. In short, the Media Sales Coordinator will not only generate underwriting revenue for WICR, but will focus on helping identify and mentor students who are interested in media sales careers. I’m very excited for this opportunity to create a model program that will uniquely prepare students for meaningful selling careers, while helping broadcasters fill their job openings.
